Takk, A Nordic Hideaway in Manchester's Northern Quarters
Nestled in Manchester's ever popular Northern Quarter you'll find Takk, an Icelandic inspired coffee shop, come creative working space. You'd be excused for missing Takk since it's down one of the quieter streets and from the outside it's pretty unsuspecting but inside is every hipsters delight... a large open plan space with bare brick walls, low hanging industrial lights, artwork for sale adorning the walls and an array of mismatching stools, benches and old school exam tables. Towards the back you'll find a small library, coffee tables and comfy chairs which makes you feel like your sat in someone's living room, a space that you could happily relax in, letting the hours drift by. The place attracts an array of different people from headphone toting developers, designers and marketeers working away on their MacBooks to couples enjoying some quiet time together and groups of friends catching up and laughing about the weekends escapades.
But we're not just here to tell you how pretty this place is... we're here to tell you how damn good the coffee is and why it will be making its way into our regularly visited coffee shops. Takk has its own Nordic style espresso; North Projekt, a single origin coffee from El Salvador which is expertly roasted for them by Bristol's Clifton Coffee, and makes for a seriously velvety & flavoursome flat white. Not only that but they regularly feature guest coffees from some of Europe's best coffee roasters and whilst you'll want to dive right into one whilst your there, you can also grab a bag to enjoy at home. We gave the Ethiopian Natural from Curve Roasters a try through the v60, which produced one hell of a cup. The guys at Takk really know how to make a good brew, with this one delivering on all the promises of juicy blueberries, it could actually have been the best coffee we've had to date.
We'll certainly be back for more Nordic charm and have already pencilled in a visit to their smaller site at Hatch this weekend which we'll no doubt be sharing on our Instagram stories, give us a follow and say hey if you don't already follow us! You can also see some of our other favourite spots for coffee here if this got you thirsty for more.
