Budget Friendly Dim Sum in Barcelona’s Popular Born District

When in Barcelona it’s so easy to live off the amazing tapas and pinchos available everywhere, maybe you’d even break it up with the best burger and beer on the beach but if you don’t venture further with your tastebuds then you’ll be severely missing out. Head on over to the very trendy El Born district where you’ll find Mosquito, a budget friendly Asian restaurant specialising in dim sum.

Already knowing that Mosquito is the top of its class for dim sum we knew we’d be ordering dumplings but after checking the menu we couldn’t pass up the very reasonably priced dumpling noodle soup with with 6 full size dumplings... a delectable savoury bowl of goodness that made us feel super cosy and full - the perfect dish for winter but we loved it just as equally in the 30 degree heat! We can’t visit an Asian restaurant without ordering baos from the menu and the fluffy warm steamed bundles of bbq pork did not disappoint. The beer menu is pretty humongous with plenty of craft beer on tap and bottled up so if that’s your thing we’d definitely recommend trying a couple - the Dougalls Chinook Single Hop was a favourite of ours.

The restaurant is very small and the interiors are leaning towards the basic side but that only makes it feel more authentic with its closely connected tables and Chinese lanterns. It fills up quickly so we’d recommend visiting for an early tea before all the clued up locals snap up all the empty tables. You can’t make reservations unfortunately but if it is full we’d recommend waiting because it’s really worth it!
