Afternoon Tea at Rosylee
Like most venues in Manchester’s trendy Northern Quarter Rosylee has that right amount of quirkiness to make it stand out from the rest. Although the big outdoor terrace on the front is tempting on a sunny day the exterior doesn’t really set you up for the wondrous interiors you find inside. This place is an Instagram junkies paradise, with a white subway tiled bar, plants hanging from every part of the ceiling and fairy lights everywhere.
We’d booked ourselves in for their afternoon tea, the perfect treat for a Friday afternoon booked off work. You’ll find yourself faced with all the classics, scones that are still warm & slightly squidgy served up with a mini pot of clotted cream and strawberry jam, the classic finger sandwich selection and more cakes that you can shake a stick at. The sandwiches were made up of salmon & cream cheese, ham & piccalilli, goats cheese and the classic egg mayonnaise and were the perfect way to break up the sweetness overload from the more than generous cake portions! For the sweeter treats we were served all the favourites, lemon drizzle, carrot and coffee cake along with a turbo charged espresso crème brûlée which were a great way to finish off the afternoon tea.
For the tea section you can choose from a pot of English breakfast, decaf, earl grey, berry & red fruit, green, camomile, lemon & ginger, peppermint, darjeeling or chai but hot chocolate and coffee are also available on request.
The amount you get is definitely value for money and we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon but we couldn’t help but feel that Manchester has other venues that beat Rosylee to the title of Manchester’s best afternoon tea. That said, we’d definitely return to Rosylee again and would love to try out their normal menu because the dishes coming out from the kitchen looked and smelt amazing.
If you ever find yourself in the neighbourhood you need to pop in to try their Manchester Bramble cocktail, a concoction of gin, lemon juice, soda and Vimto, based on the classic but with a real Manchester twist. You’ll more than likely find yourself ordering more than one of this moreish delight after you’ve tried it!
