Exquisite food at Grafene, Manchester

Grafene is somewhere we'd both wanted to try for ages simply because the food looks divine when you see it online but for one reason or another it took us so long to book ourselves in for a table! On a wintery Sunday we finally made the voyage into an extremely rainy and cold Manchester to sample the delights that Grafene has to offer which to our delight we'd stumbled upon a time when they offer a set menu of 2 courses for £18 and 3 for £23 so we ended up spending a lot less than we anticipated which is never something to grumble about.

We picked out 2 gins to warm ourselves up, opting for the Nordes (red fruit, sherbet and peach tasting notes paired with elderflower tonic and mint) and the Half Hitch (a combination of black tea, strong juniper and citrus paired with aromatic tonic, black pepper and orange).

For starters we chose the torched mackerel, parfait, plum & ponzu and the beef consommé, onion, Parmesan, & sourdough crouton but we could of easily ordered the whole menu because they all sounded divine. When it came to the mains we ordered the wild mushroom risotto with duxelle and Parmesan along with the classic roast beef dinner complete with Yorkshire pudding, roasties and seasonal vegetables. Until now we'd have always argued that Ox Noble on Liverpool Road offers up Manchester's roast beef dinner, but there's a new contender on the table and we reckon Grafene have beaten them to the title. You can't say a bad thing about the tower of Yorkshire pudding filled with rich gravy, the delicately pink roast beef, braised red cabbage, crunchy roast potatoes and perfectly cooked veg - we'll definitely be coming back again for this alone! But forget about that roast dinner for a second because believe it or not, the star dish of the day was the incredibly creamy rich risotto - the best risotto either of us have ever eaten and we'd hazard a guess at it being the best in the world (not something we'd say lightly - it genuinely was so so good!). If this was a fixed part of their menu we'd probably eat ourselves into debt at this place..

It goes without saying we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at grafene and we'll 100% be back again!
